Is Trump God’s Anointed?

hello everyone thanks for listening to

wake up lookup a podcast where we

connect events happening in real time to

the Gospel of Jesus Christ I'm Zach wck

and in today's episode we're asking the

question is Trump God's anointed this is

based on an article I read recently

exploring different Christian social

media influencers and podcasters who are

making the argument that Donald Trump is

God's anointed leader for America now

this language of anointment comes from

the Bible it's this idea in the Old

Testament where the way you would know a

particular king or Prophet or leader was

God's chosen King Prophet or leader for

Israel because they would be anointed

that was God's way of saying this is the

person I want you to listen to and these

particular Christian thinkers are saying

that in a similar way God has set aside

Donald Trump as his chosen leader for

his people America so how should we

think about this as Christians well the

answer unequivocally is we should reject

it full stop Donald Trump is not God's

anointed leader for America let me give

you some reasons why it's not okay to

say that the first is it's Blasphemous

the Bible tells us when we speak for God

when we say things from God that he has

not actually said himself we are making

ourselves out to be God that's the

essence of blasphemy we are saying

things about God that are not actually

true uh God has spoken to us God isn't

hiding from us he's communicative he

wants to be known the way he's spoken is

through scriptures and in the scriptures

I'm pretty confident he has not said

please elect Donald Trump so when people

tell us that that's what God wants they

are going beyond the Bible to tell us

that they are telling us that the whole

revelation of God is not found in the

scriptures it's found in the scriptures

plus listening to them it's in essence

the same thing that Jehovah Witnesses

say or Mormon say it is blasphemy and it

is a sin second it is the actual

definition of breaking the command to

not take the lord's name in vain I know

in American culture we tend to think of

that as attaching a cuss word to God's

name and that's not good to do either

but actually the essence of taking God's

name in vain is saying that God is

endorsing or stamping off on something

that he actually has not endorsed so in

the Old Testament when the prophets

would tell the people of Israel to trust

in Egypt instead of God or to go ahead

and marry the women from the other

surrounding tribes they were taking

God's name in vain they were speaking

for God things that God had not said

about himself so when you say Donald

Trump is the Lord's anointed you are

speaking for God in such a way that you

are using and

misusing his name blasphemy and taking

the lord's name in vain are a pretty big

deal but even they aren't as bad as the

third reason you shouldn't be saying

this and that is that God already has an

anointed and his anointed leader is

Jesus Christ you see in the Old

Testament the reason they would have to

anoint a king or a prophet is because

there were other potential Kings and

Prophets out there and you needed to

know which one of the group God had

selected but in the last days now living

in the New Testament there's no

wondering who the king God has chosen is

that King is Jesus Jesus the son of God

who at his baptism God said this is my

son not because a podcaster said it but

because the heavens opened and God

himself said it Jesus Christ the one

crucified and resurrected who ascended

into heaven who is seated at the right

hand he is God's anointed so when you

take that title and you give it to

Donald Trump you are taking it from

Jesus I hope you're not comfortable with

that listen I'm not telling you to vote

your cons you vote your conscience and

I'm not even telling you that you can't

believe that one candidate best

represents the values that God has laid

out for us the in the Bible over another

you can believe that all you want you

just can't attach the name of God or

certainly the anointing of God to that

candidate and even if your argument is

well listen God determines who gets

elected so if Donald Trump gets elected

that must mean that he's God's choice

well then I assume you'll be saying

right now that President Biden is God's

anointed I hope you're not by the way

because that would be just as wrong but

you're not doing that because you're

attaching the anointing to your

preferred candidate see my earlier

comments about blasphemy listen you can

vote your conscience and I'm not ever

going to tell you who to vote for but I

am going to tell you this the glory and

honor of Jesus is not something for you

to trifle with and to make small and to

attach to a candidate if you've done

that seek repentance because it's not

okay with me but more importantly it's

not okay with God hey thanks so much for
