Is Time Really Money?
[Music]
hello everybody thanks for listening to
wake up lookup a podcast where we
connect events happening in real time to
the Gospel of Jesus Christ I'm Zach wck
and in today's episode we're asking the
question is time really money the reason
we're asking that is because of
something I read this week in the Wall
Street Journal about how skip the line
type features are taking off in the US
economy and by that I mean particularly
around your vacation there are always
opportunities to upgrade your experience
particularly by making sure you spend
less time waiting on things here are
some examples of what I mean by skip the
line features early check-ins at hotels
so you can arrive earlier and
theoretically prolong your vacation time
uh Disney is a great example Disney
theme parks have lightning pass and
Premiere pass two features that you can
use to skip the line on particular
attractions by the way an example of
just how much money people are willing
to spend on that is that the Disney
lightning pass or Premiere pass can
range anywhere from
$129 to
$449 per person in addition to your
ticket if you go to the airport you can
prepay for TSA pre-check or services
like clear here so you don't have to
wait in line all told skip the line
features in the US economy are up five
times in spending that's because when we
travel when we go on vacation we want as
much of that time to be about fun and
relaxation and family as we do waiting
in line we want to maximize our vacation
and that makes a lot of sense to me most
people go away once or twice a year you
spend all year working and saving
towards that goal you want to enjoy it
but here's the thing time is money right
time is our most valuable currency in
many ways but I wonder if we're as
intentional about how we spend it in our
regular lives that's what I thought
about when I read this article hey I'm
as conscientious as you as making sure
vacation is efficient but the truth is
it's far more important that I'm
efficient with my time in my regular
life than the one week or two a year I
travel and and it also made me think
about this in Ephesians 5 Paul tells us
that we need to make the most of our
time make the best use of our time
because the days are evil in other words
every single minute in our day is
something that we need to own it makes
me think of managing your money the
reason why I say that is because one of
the great things about living on a
budget is it allows you to look at your
spending and ask yourself is this who I
want to be is this where I want my money
to go I wonder if we wouldn't benefit
from a similar practice with our time a
kind of time budget if you looked at the
way you're spending your week if you're
looking at the allocation of time to
your career or to your family to your
spiritual growth to your church to your
friends to your community would you be
happy with who you are maybe it is that
when we're on vacation we're hyp
sensitive to the fact that we want to
get the most use of our time but why
would that be any different during the
week I just wonder how our churches and
families and spiritual growth would
benefit from a conscientious accounting
of our time time matters being efficient
with your time matters according to the
Bible it has spiritual implications so I
want to challenge you in response to
this episode to sit down and plot out
what a regular day or even a regular
week looks like and ask yourself is this
who I want to be and am I making the
best use of my time not just when the
family goes to Disney but in my regular
day-to-day life hey thanks so much for
